Need A Lawyer? (805) 650-7599
Since 1959, our Certified Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is designed to help you find legal assistance. We are certified by the State Bar (click to view Certificate No. 0059) and accredited by the American Bar Association.
Our services are able to:
- Help you determine if your problem can be resolved without a lawyer such as through mediation or small claims court.
- Refer you to a local organization which may provide you with free/low cost services. Click for List of Services
- Refer you to a lawyer who is experienced in the appropriate field of law and is a licensee of the State Bar in good standing.
- Refer you to a lawyer who is required to carry professional liability insurance. In general, lawyers can decide whether they want to carry this kind of insurance, but to be included in a Certified Lawyer Referral Service, a lawyer must have insurance. Having insurance is not just important in the event of malpractice. It also often means that the lawyer is supported by risk management resources and training provided by the insurance carrier.
- LRS attorneys are administered by the VCBA LRS Advisory Committee comprised of local attorney volunteers which approve the application process.
Depending on your legal issue, your referral may be FREE. Otherwise, for a one time fee of $35 the Service will provide callers with the name of an attorney who will provide a consultation or the Service will set up the appointment for you. The interview is an opportunity for the prospective client to explain the general nature of the legal problem and for the attorney to explain his or her fee structure and to determine if the case is one he or she wishes to pursue.

About LRS Attorneys
All LRS attorneys charge fees. LRS attorneys do not provide free, pro bono legal services. Every LRS attorney has proven that he or she is qualified in a particular area of law practice and has met many qualifications standards. The LRS can refer clients to an attorney in almost every area of law practice and in some cases in different languages and location requirements (limited to Ventura County).
